My brother always had a way of treating everyone the same. He didn’t care about the color of your skin or how many wrinkles were on your face. He had a child-like naivete about the world and it was so endearing. If he was alive today, I know he would be very upset by what is going on in the world, especially discrimination against woman and LBGT folks. There was a young lady who worked with him who hid her sexual orientation from my parents because she was afraid they wouldn’t want her working with Brian. My parents both gave her hugs when Brian had found her wedding photos, and told her that it didn’t make one bit of difference. The only thing any of us cared about is the positive impact she had on my brother’s life. He thought the world of me and was a guy who loved the ladies, so any discrimination against woman would upset him greatly.
As I sit down to set up this fundraiser, Brian is on my mind. The ACLU is an organization that stands up for people who need help defending their human rights. Brian always was there to help, when my Dad had work to do he was by his side helping out. When people needed money he would give it to them, no matter how little he had. He stopped at every lemonade stand kids were running and usually tipped them more than the lemonade cost. He didn’t have much, but that never stopped him from giving. He also wasn’t afraid to stand up to someone when he thought they had wronged someone he loved. I heard my previous high school boyfriend had a not so pleasant run in with him in the cafeteria after he had broken up with me.
Please consider contributing to the ACLU through the fundraiser I set up through Ink to the People. They are a wonderful organization who help you design t-shirts for great causes! Here is the link:
